Kgosi Lesoma Lesoma of Lesoma in Chobe District has complained about increasing cases of theft and break-ins in the village.
Speaking at a kgotla meeting addressed by the area Member of Parliament (MP), Mr Gibson Nshimwe recently, Kgosi Lesoma said already four cars had been broken into and urged police to hunt down the culprits and bring them to justice.
“People must go look for jobs or take advantage of available government programs and leave other people’s assets alone,” he warned, adding that police must not hesitate to bring culprits to book.
Kgosi Lesoma also complained of shortage of water in his area which he said was ironic given the fact the Chobe River was overflowing. He added residents were still getting charged for water consumption even when they experienced water shortage for a month.
The Village Development Committee (VDC) chairperson, Mr Tshepiso Webson echoed Kgosi Lesoma’s sentiments adding even houses were being broken into. On other issues, MP Gibson Nshimwe thanked the Chobe community for being cooperative during his five year tenure.
He also thanked the public service for their support throughout, especially the district commissioner Dr Temba Mmusi who he said performed exceptionally well. MP Nshimwe however expressed his dissatisfaction at the state of affairs in the bogosi institution of the district.
He announced the ground breaking for Kazungula Bridge was scheduled for July.
Responding to complaints about water shortage, both the MP and a representative from Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) Mr Boitumelo Legwaila reassured residents that water would be available in June this year.
“We have built a plant which will feed Lesoma and Kazungula hopefully by June,” Mr Legwaila said. Ends
