House breakings on the rise in Kasane

Kasane police have recorded increase in house breakings in the month of April, especially in Plateau ward.
Station commander, Superintendent Silton Fidzani confirmed this in an interview recently, noting that a lot of house hold equipment had been reported stolen by home owners. However, he said most of the people whose houses had been broken into had left their houses unattended.
He advised the public to always put a unique mark on their valuables so that it would be easy to identify. Supt. Fidzani also implored them to keep receipts and other records for all their valuable purchases for use if the need could arise in future.
“Most of the valuables that are stolen include laptops, radios and televisions and other electrical appliances,” Supt Fidzani said. On other issues, the station commander stressed that some Batswana had a tendency of employing foreigners who did not have work permits which resulted in those people stealing their valuables.
“So far, we have caught five foreigners who were working without permits,” he said. He added that to prevent these house breakings, residents should leave their houses attended to.
However, he encouraged those who could afford security alarms to install them and also to utilise the services of dogs to guard homes. Also, he implored residents to immediately report any suspicious persons they see in their neighbourhood to the police.
On other issues, Supt Fidzani challenged Kasane residents to take advantage of the neighbourhood watch programme which he said was very helpful.
On their efforts to combat crime, the station commander explained that they undertake patrols to ensure that people are always safe in their homes and also engage in public education to sensitise the community about crime in the area.
“We usually hold Kgotla meetings where we teach Batswana about ways of preventing crime in their areas and we also use the media to get information to those who do not take part in our meetings,” he said.
Supt Fidzani encouraged residents to care about others and take advantage of the neighbourhood watch programme to reduce the spate of breakings. Ends
