Reckless driving major cause of accidents
14 Apr 2014
From January until April this year, two people have died while six others were injured in road accidents in the Chobe District.
Assistant Superintendent Seabelo Gwamba of Kasane Police Station said road accidents in the district were caused by people who drove recklessly while under the influence of alcohol.
“Some drivers in Chobe do not obey road signs and end up colliding with wild animals, mostly elephants. Most of these road accidents occur during month ends,” he said.
Asst Supt Gwamba also stated that they were trying hard to educate drivers about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol, especially because Chobe District was home to a lot of animals.
He urged drivers to obey road signs in order to decrease the number of road accidents. He also warned that those who were found guilty of reckless driving might be fined between P500 and P2 000 or six to 15 months imprisonment. ENDS
