Police in Mogoditshane are investigating a case in which a 17-year-old male student of Mogoditshane Senior Secondary School was found in possession of a substance suspected to be dagga on March 14.

Senior Superintendent Dipheko Motube of the Botswana Police Service's public relations unit said the student was found with a wrapping containing the substance during a stop, question and search operation near the school.

He said the police suspected that the student bought the habit forming drug from a certain tuck-shop in Mogoditshane. He added that police investigations continue.

Still in Mogoditshane, the police arrested a 24-year-old man of Nkoyaphiri ward for unlawful possession of dagga. The man was arrested on Friday after the police searched his tuck-shop and seized 52 wrappings containing the substance.

In a separate incident, one person lost his life when the vehicle he was travelling in was involved in an accident on March 15. Mogoditshane police station commander, Superintendent Nkwebi Chilisa said the accident occurred near the Mogoditshane- kgotla turn-off along the Mogoditshane/Molepolole road.

He revealed that three people were admitted at Princess Marina Hospital with serious injuries while one person died. However, he could not reveal whether the deceased was a passenger or a driver of any of the vehicles, saying the police were still investigating the cause of the accident and trying to establish the origins of the deceased.
