Court remands murder suspect
17 Mar 2014
Kasane Senior Magistrate, Gofaone Morweng has remanded a suspect in a murder case in custody to allow for investigations.
The suspect, 28- year old Kangangwane Ube of Kgaphamadi ward in Kasane is alleged to have murdered his 31 year old girlfriend, Gotweng Temoso by stabbing her after a misunderstanding at the deceased’s residence on March 11,2014.
During a mention on Wednesday, March 12, the investigating officer, detective constable, Baseyo Dintle pleaded with the court to remand the suspect in custody because the investigations were still at an initial stage and that they had not managed to get statements from the victim’s family as they were still in shock.
Detective constable Dintle also said that if the suspect was released on bail, he might interfere with investigations.
He also told the court that he also feared that if the suspect was granted bail, he might commit suicide because he was found in possession of a rope when he was arrested.
Meanwhile, the suspect pleaded with the court to grant him bail.
He admitted that he was found with a rope because he was afraid of what the community could do to him, but promised that he would appear in court whenever he was called to do so.
He also added that he had a child and mentioned that the mother of the child was unemployed.
If the court remanded him in jail, he said, no one would take care of his child.
The magistrate concurred with the investigating officer and ordered that the accused be remanded in custody until the investigations were complete.
The suspect will appear for another mention on March, 27. ENDS
