Man drowns in Thamalakane
12 Mar 2014
Maun police are investigating an incident in which the body of a 67-year-old man was fished out of the Thamalakane River recently.
Station commander, Superintendent Kenaneo Badumetse said the incident occurred at Morutsha settlement near Shorobe. Police said they received a report from the man’s neighbour who saw the deceased’s jacket, fishing nets and containers next to the river while walking by the river.
Supt Badumetse said the deceased was last seen by his neighbours on March 9 and police suspected that he might had gone out for fishing when he drowned. The man was rushed to Letsholathebe Memorial hospital where he was certified dead.
Supt Badumetse advised people not to go out fishing alone because at times the canoes capsized and people ended up drowning. In another incident, police reported that a woman was likely to face a charge of arson following a fight with another woman after a misunderstanding.
The two women were said to have been attending a baby shower event at Botshabelo ward when they started shouting at each other. After the fight, it was alleged that the other woman’s house was found burning while the owner was out and property worth over P6 000 was burnt to ashes. Ends
