Police within rights to outsource
10 Mar 2014
The Botswana Police Service (BPS), like any other government department and as a security service provider, is allowed to outsource some of its services to the private sector.
That is why the organisation had outsourced its gate security services to a private security company at the Botswana Police College.
They had also outsourced landscaping to private companies.
In an interview with Head of the Botswana Police Service Public Relations Unit, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Mbulawa said this has been an on-going thing for the past six years.
He explained that the organisation also engaged private security companies at the police headquarters and at its transport and telecommunications unit.
Mr Mbulawa explained that though BPS is a security organisation, there is a huge difference between the police and the Botswana Defence Force (BDF).
He said the army would use its personnel to man its own gate. ENDS
