09 Mar 2014

She has a blend of Macy Grey, a tone of Tracy Chapman and a swift sound of Estelle.

Her name Lesego Nchunga, took poetry and performance to a mystical level. Her stage name, Leshie Lovesong, she performs vigorously with a touch of feminism and evoking a passion of love, enchanting her audiences with a presence of sanctity and great emotion.

Leshie Lovesong mesmerised a fully packed audience at Maruapula School on Friday, March  7with an hour of a poetic and soulful performance, a collection of her works titled Falling. Her one-hour love set embodied expressive phases of love, the beauty of love, the heartache and the passion of love.

That was incorporated by the ever so talented Mandisa Mabutho, who did the backing vocals and acoustic melodies, Boleng Atmos with the drums together with musical instruments and Lexphieeox Box cater who rocked the beat box. Like songs of echoing water, the sound of a love song give me love, give love’ was a taste of her first pierce.

A song that offered audiences a story told through the art of poetry, song and theatrical pierce. The lady in question has more than seven years of experience as a songbird, a performer, an actress and a poet in her own right.

She has graced international stage in numerous countries to share her rare authentic talent. When she performs, she engages her audience in an incredible way taking them to cloud nine, and one will not only fall in love with her rustic voice but the expression, emotion and message behind her recitals.

Her second pierce expressed the sorrow and pain of love. She narrated “Heaven is almost clear in the dark, Stars kiss the earth then we start to follow through, clouds sit on the top of street lights just above the cars”.

One would be captivated in her swift movements and facial expressions like a true recitalist. As a young woman herself, she dedicated another pierce for her three friends that will be turning 25 years old this year, hailing that “she was an angel, she flew on heaven, a little girl waiting to grow” was her first stanza.

Leshie Lovesong can be your Cleopatra or Mac Anthony, or your Picasso and just a masterpiece. In addition, this amicable young woman is a firm believer of hard work and following one’s dream.

Her motto is derived from the Bible in the book of Matthew: “Wherever your treasure is, your heart will follow.” Her inspiration is drawn from her everyday life, the passion she has for poetry and love.

She left the whole audience wanting for more, spellbound and a deservedly standing ovation was given when she finished her performance. Further, Leshie Lovesong will be a force to reckon with in the creative industry. She is still to embark on international performance and will grace the annual INTWASA ko Bulawayo Festival in July.
