The air was filled with praise, hope, and powerful music on Saturday afternoon as Ontefetse Osego hosted a fundraiser concert in preparation for his historic bid to become the first Motswana to compete on Britain’s Got Talent.

The event kicked off with an uplifting praise and worship session before building to an emotional climax a stirring rendition of Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You. With strong vocals and undeniable stage presence, Osego reminded the audience that he is a man on a mission.

Speaking to attendees, Osego said the concert was aimed at raising funds for his journey to the United Kingdom (UK). He revealed that he needs P150,000 to cover travel, accommodation, rehearsals, and other preparations for the international competition.

Osego expressed gratitude to Batswana for rallying behind him, adding that he would need all the support he could get.

He also gave thanks to Kgosi Khama IV for donating a keyboard and providing other financial assistance in preparation for Britain’s Got Talent.

Beyond the fundraising, Osego spoke about what his participation meant for the country. He acknowledged that income had been tough, a reality he said many local artists faced. But he believes his journey could change that narrative.

“Imagine me belting out notes with millions glued to their screens, watching with keen interest and then going to check out Botswana music. That will unlock so many doors and shatter so many ceilings. My countrymen and women will thrive,” he said.

He encouraged fellow artists and Batswana at large to pursue their talents boldly and without apology. “Push yourselves to greater heights. Be unapologetic and bold in your craft. That is what will lead us to greatness,” he added.

A close friend who considers Osego family, Neo Mothao said she was proud of his achievements and the path he was forging. She urged him to carry himself as a true ambassador of Botswana, noting that millions would be watching and that his conduct would shape how the world sees the country.

Gabriel Gerald, who travelled all the way from Maun to attend, praised Osego’s consistency and dedication to quality music. “I don’t mind supporting Ontefetse because he respects his craft and always delivers,” he said.

With the support of the nation behind him, Osego is set to make history and put Botswana on the global entertainment map. ENDS
