06 Mar 2014
Tefo Mongwa, also known as Faceboy hails from a small village of Marapong in the north eastern part of Botswana and he is an upcoming afro hip hop/motswako artist.
He realised his passion and skills when he used to do rap battles and scribble lyrics at the back of his school notebooks.
He started writing songs in 2007 all through to high school. His loves for music made him choose to study sound technology at Limkokwing University and he is waiting to graduate and will therefore, soon become a professional sound engineer.
He said he was a member of a group called Mc’s Layers in Francistown where he gained skills and experience in music. He has also recorded a couple of demos and decided to drop a single BW Turn Up featuring Juvenile (Juvy) from Lesotho.
The beats of the song were produced by Ninja Man and all the recording and mastering was done at Booth Royale Studio.
BW Turn Up is his first single from an album that he is planning to drop before the end of the year. It is an upbeat feel good song and its video is still being shot, and hopes to drop the second single soon.
Faceboy said he draws inspiration from renowned recording artists in and out of the country, the likes of Ice Prince and Wiz Kid from Nigeria, Khuli Chana, Scar and Zeus to name, but a few. He said that he aims to come up with a different style by adding a touch of Kalanga to his music.
Tefo Mongwa also wants to explore other genres as time goes by in order for his music to be diverse and cater for masses.
His first breakthrough was when he performed at a charitable event at Limkokwing University hall of fame in an efforts to raise funds for a patient who needed a kidney transplant.
He hopes to perform all over Africa.
He said he wants to thank his mother and his friends for the endless support, both financial and motivational and also hopes to grow and take his music beyond borders. ENDS
