The state intends to amend the charge sheet due to circumstances surrounding the case that involves 28-year-old Zimbabwean national, Nyasha Mugodzeri.
Mugodzeri appeared for mention before Francistown Magistrates Court on Tuesday and faces two counts of entering Botswana through an ungazetted point of entry and possession of suspected human remains.
State prosecutor, Mooketsi Macheng said laboratory tests had revealed that some of the exhibits found in the accused’s possession were government trophies, although they had initially been suspected to be human body parts. He added that other exhibits had been sent for forensic examination and requested a further remand to allow investigations to be completed.
When given an opportunity to comment in court, Mugodzeri pleaded for leniency, saying he was a family man with children who currently had no one to care for them. The magistrate ordered that he remain in custody as investigations into his case continue and return to court on November 2 for a status update.
Mugodzeri, who allegedly claims to be a spiritual healer, was arrested on September 13 at Phirinyane Ward in Shashe Mooke.
He was denied bail on September 18 after principal magistrate Ditebogo Nthuli ruled that he was a flight risk, having allegedly entered the country illegally through an ungazetted point of entry while investigations were still at an early stage. ENDS
