Vice President of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), Mr Ndaba Gaolatlhe, has urged residents of Sefhophe to continue placing trust in government.
Mr Gaolatlhe, who is also Vice President of Botswana, was speaking during the launch of UDC council candidate Mr Thabiso Galebotse ahead of the October 17 by-election in Sefhophe.
The by-election follows the death of former councillor, Mr Christopher Motshelapheko in July.
Mr Gaolatlhe said government was committed to fulfilling its promises and improving the livelihoods of Batswana. He emphasised that the support, which propelled the UDC into government should not end at the polls, but should translate into continued confidence in the government’s ability to lead the country.
He acknowledged that government had inherited some challenges from the previous administration, saying sustainable measures would continue to be implemented to address them.
He said addressing the challenges required patience, unity and collaborative efforts among all stakeholders, adding that the government’s priority was to create better opportunities for citizens while responding to the diverse needs of communities.
Mr Gaolatlhe therefore urged residents to support the UDC council candidate, highlighting the important role of local government as a link between communities and the national Government.
“Councillors play a critical role in ensuring that communities’ concerns are brought to the attention of relevant authorities and that development programmes reach the people. I encourage you to fully engage in the upcoming elections and rally behind the UDC candidate, who not only understands the unique challenges faced by the community, but is also committed to advocating for the people’s interests,” he said.
Mmadinare MP and Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Mr Ketlhalefile Motshyegwa, revealed that Sefhophe Clinic had been upgraded to operate as a 24-hour facility.
He said the upgrade reflected the government’s commitment to prioritising the needs of the community, and stressed the importance of a concerted effort within the UDC to secure the council seat and continue advocating for the well-being of residents
Council candidate, Mr Galebotse, committed to working closely with community members.
He promised to bring their concerns to the attention of relevant stakeholders to ensure that issues were addressed promptly and effectively, thereby fostering a stronger and more responsive local government. ENDS
