BNF shifts focus to economic emancipation
24 Oct 2026
President Advocate Duma Boko has called for a review of the Botswana National Front (BNF) policies to align them with the demands of governing and the broader goal of economic emancipation.
Addressing delegates at BNF Special Policy Conference in Selebi Phikwe on October 24, President Boko, also party leader, said BNF needed to develop policies that would respond to the country’s economic challenges and unlock growth across key sectors, including manufacturing, industrialisation and agriculture.
He emphasised the need to diversify the economy and strengthen productive sectors as part of efforts to create opportunities for Batswana and advance economic transformation.
President Boko also underscored the importance of skills development, noting that citizens must be equipped with relevant skills to avoid a mismatch between their qualifications and the demands of the available job market.
On the health sector, President Boko acknowledged the crisis facing the country, assuring that the government was working round the clock to address the challenges and minimise their impact on the public.
He further urged BNF members to uphold the party's identity and values, emphasising the importance of ethics, fairness and integrity in their conduct.
President Boko said maintaining these principles would distinguish the BNF and preserve its standing as a political brand, particularly as the party navigates the responsibilities that come with being part of the governing coalition.
Held under the theme: The Second Phase of the Struggle: From Political Power to Economic Emancipation,” the conference seeks to provide a platform for dialogue, reflection and policy review as the BNF transitions from opposition politics to its role within the Umbrella for Democratic Change-led government.
