Court remands Mugodzeri for possession of suspected human body parts

A 28-year-old Zimbabwean man accused of being in possession of suspected human body parts has been remanded in custody pending bail ruling.
Nyasha Mugodzeri, 28, residing at Phirinyane Ward in Shashe Mooke, appeared before Principal Magistrate Ditebogo Ntuli of Francistown Magistrate Court on September 15.
He faces two counts of entering Botswana through an ungazetted point of entry and possession of suspected human body parts, being male genitalia.
Criminal Investigation Department’s Investigating officer, Detective Constable Gomolemo Dickson told court that the accused was arrested after receiving a tip off.
He however pleaded with court to remand the accused, arguing that investigations on the second count were still at an infancy stage to establish the origin of the suspected human body parts. He argued that granting the accused bail could interfere with investigations.
Opposing bail, prosecutor, Mr Dithong Mpale from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), told the court that possession of human body parts was a serious offence.
He said if granted bail, the accused might evade justice, as he was already facing charges of entering the country through an ungazetted point of entry.
Mr Mpale also told court that the exhibit had been transferred to forensic audit for verification.
Pleading for bail, the accused said he would not abscond, as he intended to clear his name.
If remanded in custody, he said there would be no one to take care of his property.
The accused will appear again on September 18. ENDS
