President Advocate Duma Boko’s State Visit to Angola is expected to unlock significant opportunities for mutually beneficial economic and commercial cooperation, strengthen people-to-people ties and further deepen the longstanding relationship between Botswana and Angola.

According to a press release from Office of the President, President Boko’s visit to Angola, is built on a series of high-level engagements between Botswana and Angola, including a State Visit to Botswana by President Joao Lourenco in 2023, a working visit to Angola by President Boko in March and the recently concluded inaugural Session of the Joint Permanent Commission between Botswana and Angola held in Luanda from September 3 to 6.

During the visit, the release states that the two Presidents are expected to discuss and agree on concrete programmes to strengthen trade and investment linkages between Botswana and Angola in key sectors such as mining, energy, transport, food security, tourism and regional connectivity.

It also states that they are expected to witness the signing of the Agreement on the Establishment of Botswana-Angola Bi-National Commission, which will provide an enhanced framework for coordinating and reviewing bilateral cooperation across areas of mutual interest.

President Boko is accompanied by Minister of International Relations, Dr Phenyo Butale, Minister of State President, Defense and Security, Mr Moeti Mohwasa, Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Mr Tiroeaone Ntsima, Assistant Minister of Lands and Agriculture, Mr Motsamai Motsamai and senior government officials.

Meanwhile, Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Mr Nelson Ramaotwana has assumed the role of Acting President, as both President and Vice President are outside the country.

The release states that Vice President Ndaba Gaolathe has travelled to Seoul, Republic of Korea to attend the eighth Korea-Africa Economic Cooperation (KOAFEC) Ministerial Conference that will be held on September 8.

It states that the visit follows an invitation extended to the Minister of Finance by the African Development Bank and the government of the Republic of Korea. ENDS
