Ministry to upgrade Sese
16 Jul 2026
Ministry of Local Government and Traditional Affairs has taken a decision to upgrade Sese given the growing population and size of the village.
Responding to a parliamentary question on Tuesday, the Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs Mr Ketlhalefile Motshegwa said Sese, with a population of 7119 inclusive of its associated localities, had been identified as qualifying for upgrading.
However, he said the implementation had been deferred due to prevailing budgetary constraints.
Mr Motshegwa said the ministry applied the Revised National Settlement Policy of 2024 together with data from the 2022 National Housing and Population Census in determining the upgrading of villages across Botswana.
Meanwhile, Minister Motshegwa said the upgrading of Sese kgotla from Headman of Records status to Chief Representative (Moemela Kgosi) would be done during the first quarter of 2026/27 financial year.
He was responding to a question from Jwaneng/Mabutsane MP, Mr Omphemetse Kwapa, who had asked the minister to state whether there were plans to upgrade Sese Headman of Records given the growing population and size of the village. ENDS
