Three die in road accident

26 Feb 2014

Letlhakane police acting station commander, Assistant Superintendent Zibani Mbisana has confirmed a car accident that claimed the lives of three people on Friday afternoon (February 21).

Assistant Superintendent Mbisana said in an interview that a vehicle overturned along Letlhakane/Serowe Road before Makoba veterinary disease control fence gate at around 3 p.m. He said the seven-seater vehicle was carrying nine passengers (eight females and a male who was the driver).

Mr Mbisana said victims were rushed to Letlhakane Primary Hospital where three were certified dead. One of them was immediately transferred to Nyangagwe Referral Hospital in a critical condition. Two of the accident survivors are still admitted at Letlhakane hospital while the other three were released.

Mr Mbisana urged Batswana to always check their tyres before embarking on any journey and ensure their vehicles were in a good condition to avoid road accidents which remained a major concern for the country.

He also said he was concerned about people who used emergency wheels for long distances. He said the emergency wheel was designed to travel roughly around 10 kilometers and there was a likelihood the wheel would burst if that distance was exceeded.

Mr Mbisana said police investigations were still ongoing to establish the cause of the accident. ENDS
