03 Jul 2026
Two biological brothers from Taung ward in Ramotswa on Friday morning appeared before Chief Magistrate Kamogelo Mmesi of Extension II Magistrate Court to face charges of motor vehicle theft.
According to Ramotswa Police Station Commander Superintendent James Moikwathai the police received a report last week about the missing Toyota Dyna truck valued at over P165,000.
The Police launched an intensive search and after a joint operation finally arrested 28-year-old Gift Chaka on Tuesday this week while his young brother 25-year-old Owen Chaka was nabbed the following day at Siga ward in Ramotswa.
The duo was arraigned before Extension II Magistrate on Friday while the third suspect in the matter was still at large.
Supt Moikwathai said the missing truck had also not been recovered as police investigations continue.
He noted that his office had been inundated with several reports of motor vehicle theft and there had been a spike in a number of cases in recent weeks with some car models reportedly smuggled across border.
Supt Moikwathai said motor vehicle theft remained an area of concern in the villages and advised the community to consider installation of security tracking devices and car alarms for basic tracking protection against theft. ENDS
