More Batswana To Benefit From ICCR Scholarships

Due to India’s benevolence, 75 Batswana will this year have an opportunity to study in India through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Scholarships.
India increased Botswana’s scholarships from 54 to 75 this year. Already, over 400 Batswana have so far benefited through the programme
The ICCR scholarships are an educational programme offered by India in order to foster international understanding and strengthen biletaral relations.
The scholarships allow students to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate and PHD programmes in Indian universities.
Speaking during a press briefing on May 7, India High Commissioner to Botswana, Mr Bharath Kumar Kuthati said India, had in the last decade, availed training opportunities for over thousands of personnel from government, parastatals and the private sector.
This, he said reaffirmed that the two countries enjoyed ties marked by trust, friendship and cooperation.
Mr Kumar Kushati said India supported Botswana development priorities, common cooperation and capacity building initiatives.
He said the two countries had cooperation in pharmaceutical, human resources development and had Information Technology partnerships.
Indian companies, he noted had invested meaningfully in mining and diamonds with 30 diamond cutting and sorting companies operating in Botswana and employing a sizeable number of Batswana.
In the healthcare industry, he said India doctors and pharmacists were a part of the eco-system in Botswana, a development he applauded.
He noted that Botswana Vison 2036 and India’s developmental experiences presented strong complimentarities for future benefit. ENDS
