Twelve learners receive assistance

Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education has swiftly moved to ensure that 12 learners, who were left stranded after the boys’ dormitory at Molopo River Junior Secondary School was burnt down, received assistance.
On Sunday, the students were left stranded after their belongings were ravaged by the inferno.
According to chief education officer, Ms Kesego Sekgwama, the ministry had already made plans to buy them the school uniform.
Also, he said Good Hope District Council had given affected learners P1,500 vouchers to buy blankets, toiletry and clothes.
She said they were yet to determine the total cost of burnt items, adding that the fire started when learners were attending the afternoon study.
Ms Sekgwama said investigations were ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
She further said Minister Nono Kgafela-Mokoka visited the school on Monday to appreciate damages and render emotional support. ENDS
