Three men, all aged 26, were arrested on Thursday after being found in possession of 111 boxes of Chelsea cigarettes valued at P399,600. ‎ ‎According to Superintendent Jacob Molapong of Molepolole Police Station, police acted on a tip-off from members of the public who had identified vehicles suspected of transporting stolen goods. ‎ ‎"The suspects fled upon spotting the police, prompting a chase that ended at Seherelela lands, where they were apprehended," Molapong said. ‎ ‎The suspects, hailing from Mbalambi, Masunga and Nswazwi, were travelling in three vehicles: a Honda Fit and two Toyota Alphards. ‎ ‎They were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed cigarettes, an offence that carries a monetary penalty of P5,000. ‎ ‎The cigarettes are believed to have originated from Zimbabwe and entered Botswana through an ungazetted point, destined for South Africa. ‎ ‎Police are working closely with the Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) on the matter. ‎ ‎In a separate incident, a 44-year-old man was found dead in Mahetlwe with severe head injuries. A 24-year-old Zimbabwean man is being treated for serious injuries and is expected to assist police with investigations.ENDSSource : BOPA
