Official outlines plans to revamp infrastructure for Tsabong District
02 Mar 2026
Addressing a full council meeting in Tsabong on Tuesday, Mr Motlhanke said the district was at a critical turning point, where its traditional pastoral lifestyle must be aligned with emerging industrial and commercial opportunities.
He stressed the urgency of completing stalled infrastructure projects, describing them as ‘the arteries of our local economy.’
He noted that limited connectivity between Tsabong and surrounding sub-districts continued to hinder trade, service delivery and access to healthcare.
To address these challenges, Mr Motlhanke announced renewed efforts to improve road maintenance and expand digital telecommunications infrastructure to bridge the connectivity gap across the vast Kgalagadi region.
Water security also featured prominently in his address. Acknowledging recurring water shortages affecting farmers in the arid district, the chairperson revealed plans to modernise borehole management systems and introduce sustainable desalination technologies.
He said a dependable water supply was essential for achieving agricultural self-sufficiency and unlocking broader economic potential.
Mr Motlhanke further called on young people to seize opportunities in emerging sectors, particularly green energy and tourism, highlighting forthcoming government grant programmes aimed at supporting youth entrepreneurship.
He concluded by emphasising that the success of the council’s development agenda would depend on transparent governance and active community participation. ENDS
