Court remands duo in custody for murder

28 Jan 2026

Two women appeared before Chief Magistrate Thebeetsile Mulalu of Molepolole Magistrate Court on Monday charged with the murder of 61-year-old Kagiso Lesetedi of Go-Dinti ward in Molepolole.

The accused, Gaokgakala Tlotleng (46) of Jerusalema ward in Moshupa and Rosina Banoge (44) of Moatlhodi ward in Khudumelapye, face a single count of murder in connection with Lesetedi’s death on or about January 22, 2026, at or near Go-Dinti ward in Molepolole, Kweneng District.

Prosecutor Sergeant Koketso Motshoganetsi applied for the duo to be remanded in custody, arguing that investigations were still at an initial stage. The court heard that Tlotleng, who is unemployed, is alleged to be the deceased’s former girlfriend, while Banoge, a salesperson at Smart Mortuary where the deceased was also employed, is said to have been his current girlfriend at the time of his death.

Presenting the facts, acting Station Commander of Molepolole Police Station, Assistant Superintendent Future Modisadife, told the court that police were investigating a murder case and that the deceased’s body had not yet undergone a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. He  said Lesetedi died on January 22, 2026, and the matter was reported to the police on January 24, 2026, by his cousin.

The cousin allegedly told police that he had been approached by a 44-year-old woman, identified as the deceased’s former girlfriend, who claimed that Lesetedi had been killed by his current girlfriend through food poisoning. Following the report, police arrested the two women, who are now charged in connection with the death.

Assistant Superintendent Modisadife said the circumstances surrounding the death remained unclear, but investigators suspected the alleged offence might have been jointly planned by the two accused, despite one of them later reporting the matter. The accused were remanded in custody and will appear again for mention on February 19, 2026. BOPA
