Police shoot kill escapee

A 32-year-old prison escapee, who had been on the run since February 5, was shot and killed after resisting arrest at Salajwe in the Kweneng District on Friday, February 14.
He also reportedly charged at the police with a knife. A news release from the Botswana Police Service stated that the prisoner committed rape and stole a motor vehicle while on the run.
It stated that the convict was serving a 12-year sentence for the 2008 rape, theft of a motor vehicle, obtaining by false pretences, escaping from lawful custody and house breaking offences.
The releases further stated that police investigations were continuing. Police and prison officers would not release the name of the dead man and his place of origin. ENDS
