Mochudi police are investigating a case in which a man allegedly murdered his girlfriend and then caused a horrific road accident that claimed the life of a truck driver.

The man allegedly killed his 45-year-old girlfriend and then caused the accident that resulted in a Namibian truck driver burning to ashes after colliding with a RunX car.

Mochudi police station commander, Superintendant Simon Sitale said the incident was reported to them on February 13 around lunch hour. He said they received the report of a murdered woman while they were still attending to the accident that occurred at Dikgonnye junction.

“The truck was heading north when it collided with the car which was heading south. Initial investigations show that the man who caused the accident was suicidal,” he said.

He added that the police struggled to locate the truck driver at the scene of the accident until his scalp was discovered, burnt beyond recognition, after the truck was lifted.

He said the police suspected that the deceased woman was murdered by the same man who caused the accident, as investigations had shown that the man and the woman had a relationship.

He also revealed that the woman was rushed to hospital where she was certified dead, while the suspect survived with a broken arm and was recovering at Princess Marina Hospital in Gaborone.

“After his release from hospital he will face two counts of murder and causing death by reckless driving. We are still carrying out further investigations,” said Supt Sitale. ENDS
