India President jets in for historic visit

President Advocate Duma Boko (right) welcoming India President, Ms Droupadi Murmu at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport for a three-day historic state visit in Gaborone on November 11. President Murmu, who is in the country at the invitation of President Boko, was also welcomed by Vice President Ndaba Gaolathe, Minister for State President, Mr Moeti Mohwasa, Minister of Minerals and Energy, Ms Bogolo Kenewendo and senior government officials. The visit aims to strengthen the existing bilateral relations between the two countries and further explore areas for enhanced cooperation in health, education, agriculture, mining, trade and investment. During the visit, the two leaders will hold bilateral talks and President Murmu will address Parliament. She is also expected to among others, visit the Diamond Trading Company Botswana to appreciate Botswana’s diamonds for development story. President Murmu will also visit Mokolodi Nature Reserve, where the country is expected to hand over a donation of eight cheetahs to India. Botswana and India established diplomatic ties in 1966 and continue to enjoy friendly relations and excellent cooperation in various sectors of the economy. Photo: Phenyo Moalosi
