Police investigate fatal hit-and-run accident

Woodhall Police in Lobatse are investigating a case in which a 28-year-old man of Otse died on Wednesday night in a hit-and-run road accident.

Speaking in an interview, Woodhall Police station commander, Superintendent Goitsemang Sekgabo, said the police received the incident report from a passerby last week Thursday around 6am, who reported that she had seen the deceased lying beside the A1 road near a fuel station at Otse. Upon arrival at the scene, the police found the deceased lying about one meter away from the road, motionless with visible injuries on the head, a fractured left arm, and a deep wound on the hip.He was taken to Athlone Hospital, where he was certified dead by a medical doctor upon arrival.

He has since been identified by his grandfather at Otse, who informed the Police that the deceased was a psychiatric patient.

Superintendent Sekgabo told BOPA that the deceased was suspected to have been hit by a silver grey vehicle during the night, as the Police discovered some silver grey coloured pieces of the front parts of a vehicle at the scene.

Currently, he said no arrests had been made, adding that Police investigations were ongoing.

He appealed to members of the public to assist the Police with information regarding the person whom they suspect of having committed such an offense.

Additionally, he encouraged the individual who had committed the offense to surrender to the police. ENDS
