A 35-year-old man is in police custody in connection with the murder of an 82-year-old woman in Lotlhakane East.

According to Kanye Police Station Superintendent Onkgomoditse Sekaba-Masala, the man who is the grandson to the deceased, was arrested on Wednesday following a report about the missing elderly woman.

He said upon arriving at her homestead, they conducted investigations after suspicious happenings at the home. He said they found a fire burning in a dumping pit and upon closer inspection, they discovered what appears to be pieces of burning meat.

He said after extinguishing the fire, officers recovered body parts, which subsequent post mortem examination confirmed belonged to the deceased.

Investigations on what transpired, he said were ongoing. He said the suspect would appear before the Kanye Magistrate Court for mention on Friday. ENDS
