No bail for Makobo murder accused
10 Oct 2025
The Francistown Magistrates Court has denied bail to Ruth Fana and Onalenna Fana, who are accused of the murder of Elicah Fana in Makobo on June 9, 2025.
Ruth and Onalenna who are daughter and granddaughter to the victim respectively, had applied for bail citing the reason that their two children needed their support.
Delivering ruling on the bail application this morning, Principal Magistrate Thapelo Buang said the case was not an ordinary one as the two people being prosecuted were daughter and granddaughter of the victim.
He said the deceased was aged 71 at the time of offence, and the people who she trusted with her safety and protection were the ones before court facing charges of her murder.
Principal Magistrate Buang said there was no doubt that the community in which the accused lived was enraged by the senseless and heartless actions the accused were alleged to have committed.
He noted that in the interest of justice, the bail application pending trial was therefore dismissed until their matter was committed to High Court for trial, or they were released from custody through other lawful means. The two accused will therefore appear on November 10 for status hearing. ENDS
