Court grants 16 Letlhakane male learners bail

Senior Magistrate Atlanang Manchwe of Letlhakane Magistrate Court has granted bail to the 16 Letlhakane Senior Secondary school male learners accused of assaulting another pupil of the same school.
Conditions of the bail were that parents for each learner bind themselves with P1,500 and that the pupils should report to Letlhakane Police station every Friday during school holidays and to the school head every Friday when schools are open. Meanwhile, the victim is said to be recuperating from home and attending scheduled medical checkups.
In another matter, Senior Magistrate Manchwe has sentenced Emmanuel Mothobi (39) to a 15-year imprisonment for possession of Methcathinone, an illicit drug popularly known as Cat weighing 150 grams. He was charged in February 2024 for unlawful possession of illicit substances contrary to section 4 of the Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act, 2018 of the laws of Botswana.
She said the offence carried a minimum sentence of 15 years imprisonment or P1 million charge. She therefore said she had found no exceptional extenuating circumstances in the matter hence the 15-year jail term. In his mitigation, the accused had indicated that he was a breadwinner, taking care of his mother and children, and also that his partner was heavily pregnant. ENDS
