WUSA raises GBV awareness through cycling
19 Jul 2025
WUSA Africa in collaboration with North West District Gender Committee have conducted a campaign in Maun to raise awareness and disseminate information on gender-based violence (GBV) and its forms.
The activity started with a walk from Nandos to the Mall of Maun and ended with cycling from Maun to Gaborone yesterday, an initiative by WUSA Africa dubbed: WUSA Africa Stop GBV 1000km Ride Challenge, aiming to break the silence on gender-based issues.
Speaking during the campaign, Assistant District Commissioner, Ms Keamogetse Segokgo said GBV continued to pose a serious challenge to the society and applauded companies and organisations for playing an active role in combating the scourge.
The efforts, she said, were crucial in raising awareness about GBV and its impact could encourage victims to speak out and seek help well on time.
WUSA Africa manager, Mr Pako Abedile said the company has been fighting GBV since 2015, pointing out that they were equally concerned about the rising incidents of GBV.
He said they visited schools in Maun, amongst them, Tshwaragano Junior Secondary School, where they spoke with learners about GBV and it's forms. Mr Abedile said they appealed to pupils to report any form of GBV to relevant authorities.
Through WUSA Africa Stop GBV 1000km Ride Challenge, he said they would traverse the country to reach more people and disseminate information on gender-based violence. ENDS
