19 Jul 2025
In an endeavour to improve the education sector in Jwaneng Mine’s area of influence, Jwaneng Underground Project (JUP) and its business partners yesterday donated P100 000 worth of textbooks and stationery to Mahotshwane Primary School.
They further handed over a refurbished kgotla shelter to the community. JUP senior project manager, Mr Obert Chombo applauded their business partners for collaborating with them in making an impact on communities. He urged pupils to use the textbooks to enhance their academic results and implored them to focus on education to ensure they realised their dreams.
Mr Chombo noted that since inception, JUP continued to create employment opportunities throughout various phases, expressing optimism that more people from surrounding areas would be hired as the project progressed.
Acting Regional Director-Operations, Mr Tumelo Rakgabo said the donation resonated with the Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education’s priority areas of ensuring access to equity and private sector engagement. He pointed that developing the education sector should be a collective responsibility by all stakeholders. He appreciated JUP and its business partners for the donation, saying it would go a long way in improving the school’s current 68 per cent ABC pass.
In his welcome remarks, Kgosi Mohurutshi Maipolelo lauded Jwaneng Mine for its impact on the local communities, particularly Mahotshwane. He said as a remote village, they continued to benefit from the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives and subsequently did not feel left out. ENDS
