Mokibe Remands Robbery accused

Outgoing chief magistrate, Ms Linah Mokibe has remanded in custody a 24-year-old man of Old Naledi for robbing former diplomat Dr Athalia Molokomme.
The accused, Thato Modise, who works as a driver at Recycle-It Botswana, appeared before Magistrate Mokibe on Thursday, to face a single count of robbery, contrary to section 291 as read with section 292 (2) of the Penal Code of the Laws of Botswana.
According to the charge sheet, Modise and others, who were not before the court, are alleged to have on or about July 7, at or near Extension 19 in Gaborone, acting together and in concert, with a common purpose stole from Dr Molokomme.
Among the items stolen included a silver and black Lenovo laptop, back Asus laptop, grey Acer laptop, silver HP laptop, jewelry worth P70 000, purple iPhone cellphone, canon camera, black zoom lens, iPhone 15 Pro Max, black Samsung galaxy cellphone, grey iPhone 15 plus, 1TB SanDisk external drive and silver apple iPad.
The accused person, and his accomplice are alleged to have during the time of such stealing, armed with knives and threatened to use actual violence on the victim in order to obtain the stolen items.
Modise, who was self-represented, will appear for mention on July 25.
The state was represented by prosecutor, Ms Seeletso Ookeditse from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
Meanwhile, Ms Mokibe is among the six judicial officers recently appointed judges of the High Court by President Advocate Duma Boko, acting on recommendations of the Judicial Service Commission.
Others appointed to the High Court bench were, Messrs Bafi Nlanda, Oteng Motlhala and Tshekiso Tshekiso as well as Ms Felicity Singweni and Ms Nomsa Moatswi. ENDS
