The Member of Parliament for Mahalapye West Constituency Mr David Tshere toured Madiba Senior Secondary School where he engaged with teachers and support staff over longstanding grievances affecting their work environment and performance.
Following a recent submission of a petition of grievances, the staff raised concerns over issues including the closure of the school bursar’s office, shortage of teaching and learning materials as well as infrastructure challenges.
Mr Tshere who is also the Minister of of Communication and Innovation acknowledged the frustrations and assured the staff that their concerns would be relayed to the relevant ministry.
He urged Madiba staff to pick up the pieces of what is broken and move towards fixing it for a better tomorrow.
“This is not just about education, but about dignity and working conditions. I will ensure your voices are heard in Parliament,” said Mr Tshere.
He said he has seen the petition and there would be an inspection on the school, which would be followed by finding resolutions.
“It is essential to move on, the syllabus has to be completed and I’m optimistic the results would improve next year,” he said.
The School Head, Mr Omphemetse Maitshoko expressed appreciated the MP’s visit and urged timely interventions to improve morale and effectiveness in delivering quality education.
Ms Cecilia Sunday from Mahalapye Education Office said they have long been aware of the challenges encountered by the school stating that they will ensure they make requests to their headquarters especially on matters that can be addressed within a short period of time.
“We are aware of the absence of the school bursar and we will engage the relevant authorities to assist us in finding the aforementioned member of staff,” said Ms Sunday.
She continued to state that in relation to the school fence they were looking on completing it as the funds allocated to the task had been depleted before the project was completed.
Ms Sunday further said that if it had not been for other urgent matters that erupt unexpectedly most of the school necessities would have long been attended to. ENDS
