The Botswana Red Cross Society (BRCS) has reiterated its commitment to support entrepreneurs who were affected by the heavy rainstorms, which hit the country early this year.
Already the society is conducting a two-day business services training workshop at supporting entrepreneurs affected by the flood that hit Francistown and the North East District.
Speaking at the event in Francistown, BRCS secretary general and chief executive officer Mr Kutlwano Mukokomani said the training was a component of a broader response strategy by BRCS, aimed at supporting over 10 000 individuals affected by flooding across hard-to-reach areas in Botswana. He said the initiative sought to facilitate the recovery of those businesses were disrupted or damaged by the flooding.
"The main goal of the training is to enhance the capacity of the affected entrepreneurs, equipping them with the necessary skills to sustainably manage, plan, and grow their businesses as they navigate the challenges of rebuilding after the disaster,” he said.
He stressed the importance of the training in equipping business owners with fundamental skills to recover from the disruptions caused by the severe weather conditions. The training, he further said was also designed to assist victims in accessing resources, sharing their experiences and collaborating to create a more resilient local economy.
He was hopeful that the workshop would enhance their business and financial management skills, provide practical tools for rebuilding, and promote long-term economic resilience. He acknowledged the significant impacts of recent storms and floods, particularly on informal traders and vulnerable households, stressing that many have suffered losses of stock, property, and income.
The workshop brought together entrepreneurs from both Francistown and the North East District, fostering a collaborative environment for learning and sharing experiences. ENDS
