President Advocate Duma Boko is in Luanda, Angola to participate in the 17th US-Africa Business Summit that starts today and will end tomorrow.

As part of the Summit engagements, President Boko will participate in a high level panel discussion titled; Race to Connect: Investing in Africa's Digital Backbone.

On the margins of the Summit, President Boko will also attend bilateral meetings to promote Botswana as an investment and tourism destination.

Additionally, to boost Botswana’s participation at the Summit, the Botswana Investment Trade Centre has erected a stall to provide information on ease of doing business in Botswana.

The Summit gathered more than 1 500 participants including African Heads of State and ministers, senior US government officials and African CEOs, investors as well as think tanks from across Africa and the United States to deliberate on ways of enhancing trade and investment opportunities between Africa and the United States.

The deliberations will be achieved through over 30 plenaries, breakout sessions and deal rooms, offering opportunities for real-time business matchmaking, investor roundtables and in-depth sectoral dialogues.

Since 2019, Botswana has participated in five editions of the US-Africa Business Summit including hosting the 2023 event in Gaborone.

A press release from the Office of the President says the Summit provides a platform for Botswana to promote its economic interests and identify market access opportunities for local products in the US such as agricultural produce.

With US trade policy redefining the country’s economic engagement with African nations in key value chains, the 2025 US-Africa Business Summit is promising high-level engagement, deal-making opportunities and strategic dialogue between US and African governments.

The Summit centres on priority sectors such as infrastructure, energy, healthcare, digital transformation, agribusiness, creative industries and sustainable finance.

Since its inception, the US-Africa Business Summit has served as a vital platform for advancing US-Africa commercial partnerships.

Angola is the new chair of the African Union and the country’s hosting of the event will highlight Africa’s regional integration and economic transformation, particularly through initiatives such as the Lobito Corridor, a key logistics and transport route expected to bolster trade across Southern and Central Africa.

Past Summits have facilitated multi-million-dollar deals, catalysed new joint ventures and introduced innovative financing instruments supporting US ventures in African markets.

President Boko is accompanied by Minister of International Relations, Dr Phenyo Butale, Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Mr Tiroeaone Ntsima, Minister of Communications and Innovation, Mr David Tshere, Minister of Health, Dr Stephen Modise, as well as senior government officials.

President Boko and his delegation are scheduled to return home on Wednesday. ENDS
