Court remands Tshupetso in custody

An eighteen-year-old girl who is accused of stabbing her boyfriend three times with a knife at Maruapula in Gaborone last month has been remanded in custody until next month.

The teenager, Bame Tshupetso, who was first remanded in custody by Magistrate Kaveri Kapeko of Extension II Magistrate Court on May 26, had her remand warrant extended until July 3. She is facing a single count of unlawful wounding contrary to section 233 (a) of the penal code cap 08:01.

The state, in the charge sheet before the court, alleges that Tshupetso who is unemployed stabbed his fast asleep boyfriend Thuso Raokgwatlhile on the neck and chest on May 25 at Maruapula location in Gaborone. The victim, who is aged 30 years, is currently hospitalised, and the court has ordered that the accused be taken for counselling.

The state was represented by Inspector Modisaotsile Seratswe of Central Police Station on behalf of the Directorate of Public Prosecution. In an interview outside the court, Inspector Seratswe explained that investigations into the matter were complete. He explained that the accused was not yet a candidate for bail due to the seriousness of the offence, adding that the victim was not yet out of the woods. The next court mention would be for a status hearing.
