Angola minister of Telecommunication, Information Technology, and Social Communication has invited Botswana and other countries to  participate in the Angola Information Communication Technology (ANGOTIC) forum scheduled for June 12 to 14 in Luanda.

Minister Mário Augusto da Silva Oliveria told BOPA in an interview that this year’s ANGOTIC forum was a milestone of technology and innovation as it would be focused on sustainable innovation, inclusion, and strengthened cooperation.

He said the forum would address emerging topics ranging from Artificial Intelligence (AI) and fake news to bio-engineering, highlighting solutions that not only transform lives but also promote environmental sustainability, social equity, and the country’s economic development. 

The event, according Mr da Silva Oliveria was further aimed to inspire and foster collaboration and action towards a more promising and interconnected future.

“ANGOTIC 2025 promises to be a platform for revolutionary ideas and transformative partnerships, shaping the course of global innovation for the coming years.”

The minister said around 170 telecommunication and social communication companies would attend the event, more than half of which were foreign companies from various countries, including Botswana

Last year the three-day technology event was held under the theme: Digitise, Connect, and Innovate, marking a strong focus on digital convergence and the development of sustainable solutions to address global challenges. 

ANGOTIC 2024 provided a platform for reflecting on the growth of the ICT sector, the advancement of connected technologies, and the importance of collaboration among various stakeholders. 

One of the outcomes of ANGOTIC 2024 was an agreement between Botswana and Angola, with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in June 2024 by the University of Botswana with the National Space Programme Management Office. 

The MoU aimed at among others, to develop cooperation in the space field, based on the principles of equality and reciprocity of advantages, taking into account the economic growth recorded in both countries. 

ANGOTIC 2025 will be held under the theme: 50 Years – Communicating, Modernising and Developing Angola, in celebration of the country’s 50^th independence anniversary. ENDS
