Court remands teenager for stabbing boyfriend

An 18-year-old teenage girl has been remanded in custody by Extension II Magistrate's Court for allegedly stabbing her over 30-year-old boyfriend with a knife on the neck over the weekend.

The teenager, Bame Tshupetso was remanded in custody by Magistrate Mr Kaveri Kapeko yesterday after she was arraigned for a single count of unlawful wounding contrary to section 233 (a) of the penal code cap 08:01. The unemployed teenager is alleged to have stabbed his fast asleep boyfriend on the neck after a disagreement.

According to the charge sheet, Tshupetso on or about 25 May 2025, at Maruapula location in Gaborone Administrative District, unlawfully wounded one Thuso Raokgwatlhile by stabbing him with a knife on the neck. The state was represented by Inspector Modisaotsile Seratswe of Botswana Police on behalf of the Directorate of Public Prosecution, while Tshupetso appeared in person. Inspector Seratswe told the court that investigations into the matter were still fresh as it occurred over the weekend. 

He said the victim was currently hospitalised under observation of a medical specialist, hence pleaded with the magistrate to remand the suspect in custody. The accused person, Tshupetso will appear again for mention on June 5. ENDS
