Kgari Sechele Senior Secondary School learners and teachers have been applauded for sterling performance in the Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) results, with seven top achievers garnering 48 points.

Speaking during the school’s Excellence Award Ceremony in Molepolole May 23, the Director of Teaching Professional Welfare Mr Steve Bothasitse commended the Class of 2024 for putting Kgari Sechele on the map. He  said they were capable and in charge of their own destiny hence the need to remain focused as they advanced to the next chapter of their lives.

“I am proud of you for walking this road, for doing what is good for you, and making a big change for yourselves, you got this,” he said.

The director told Class of 2024 that he admired their courage and effort they made to excel in their studies, applauding them for setting the bar high. Mr Bothasitse cautioned them that they would meet challenges while at tertiary school, but should remain focused on their studies and allow nothing to derail them from their dreams.

He urged teachers that as the Botswana Teaching Professional Council (BOTEPCO) prepare to register and license them, they should all register as per their mandate to professionalise the teaching cadre. Mr Bothasitse also applauded teachers for a job well done and patted them on the back for academic excellence.

Addressing his fellow top achiever’s, Jeremiah Leselamose said they went through a journey of dedication, challenges and ultimately triumph. He said the theme: Perseverance and Purpose in Pursuit for Excellence fitly described what they had to go through for them to achieve their desired results. Leselamose further said they came to school having heard that there was a new school-head who liked corporal punishment but the good news was, that actually pushed them to do better.

He said even when he got 85 per cent he was  punished as he was expected to get more, until he got an A*. He further said they were proud of the teachers who stood by them and worked with them even through the study camp where they learnt a lot. Leselamose said the 48 points he got was his target and was very happy that he worked hard to achieve them.

Kgari Sechele School head, Ms Mosa Kebobone commended Class of 2024 for putting the school on the map as they got position four at national level. She said her school was one of the best performing schools nationally, and therefore applauded class of 2024 for making history in the school academics giving it recognition across the nation.

Ms Kebobone further said they were celebrating heroes and heroines who contributed to what the school was today. She advised learners to take care of themselves as they headed towards the world of work which required their education for survival. Ms Kebobone cautioned them against wild living when they get to tertiary schools. She said they must  commit their lives to study, graduate and get to the field of work to secure a better future.

She added that her staff had developed a culture of commitment and excellent academic performance which assisted in realising their vision. Ms Kebobone thanked all the sponsors and parents who contributed towards the success of the award ceremony.

Among the top achievers are Leselamose (best student overall), Aldrin Molefe, Katlo Laolang, Letso Lekula, Bokamoso Lerako, Katlego Namane and Wame Shianyana. Teachers were likewise awarded for best performance in all their various departments. ENDS
