Strengthen corporate governance frameworks

21 May 2025

Office of the President Deputy Permanent Secretary has appealed to organisations to strengthen corporate governance frameworks rooted in the principles of integrity, excellence, accountability, transparency and responsibility.

Speaking during the 3rd Corporate Governance Summit in Gaborone yesterday, Ms Hazel Reaitsanye emphasised the importance of ethical decision-making, transparency and accountability in fostering sound governance practices.

“Corporate governance must be the cornerstone of operations, guiding organisations in their pursuit of sustainable growth, sound risk management and stakeholder trust,” she said.

The summit themed: Cultivating Ethical Leadership in Promoting Corporate Governance in a Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity Era, Ms Reaitsanye said it served as a timely reminder for leaders across organisations to reassess their ethical conduct and renew their commitment to good governance amidst rapidly changing challenges and environment.

Ms Reaitsanye highlighted that effective governance played a critical role in promoting organisational resilience, adaptability and long-term success.

She stressed that governance was more than just a structural requirement, but a dynamic force that influenced every decision and action.

“Every decision we make, every action we take has a ripple effect on our organisation, our economy, our countries, and beyond,” she said, calling for conscious and responsible leadership.

Ms Reaitsanye also advocated for a reimagining of corporate governance, one that aligned with human rights and embraces agility, innovation and strategic foresight to navigate the complexities of the global landscape, and for thriving in an unpredictable global environment.

Giving an overview of corporate governance, summit chairperson, Mr Joe Ndadi noted that the Exclusive Human Capital Consulting firm identified critical gaps in ethical leadership and the urgent need to cultivate ethical leadership.

Mr Ndadi also called upon leaders to embrace their role as stewards of ethical leadership, upholding the principles of accountability and guiding their organisations toward a future built on trust, sustainability and success. ENDS
