Letlhakane police have appealed to the public to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of two men who tricked and swindled a 50-year-old woman money amounting to P845 000 on two separate instances.
Station commander, Superintendent Michael Maphephu said the woman reported the incident on Monday. Supt Maphephu said the victim was approached by a man at a mall in Letlhakane who told her that she had been bewitched and her life was in danger, therefore offered urgent intervention in the form of traditional healing.
While still talking, another man is said to have arrived masquerading as the client to the first man, hence the victim was convinced and in the process sold her car for P45 000 which she was told it was going to kill her in an accident soon.
She was told to register a new sim card under her names and give it to the suspects, where money for the sold car was deposited for cleansing, since the money had to be cleansed first before given back to the victim. Another occasion, the woman was tricked to sell her house at Phase I in Letlhakane valued at P800 000. She was told her days were numbered if she continued to stay in the house because it was possessed by evil spirits.
Desperate for help and unsuspecting sinsiter, the woman carried the money to meet the conmen at some mountain in Gabane for cleansing before she could buy a new house as instructed. It was at that mountain where she was further duped and never saw the suspects again. ENDS
