12 May 2025
The 2025 national tertiary institutions roadshow chairperson says it is crucial to uplift underprivileged girls and ensure that they have the resources they need to pursue their education with confidence.
“We know that access to dignity products is not a luxury. It is a right. Without them, girls miss valuable school days, fall behind and sometimes even drop out,’’ said Mr Duelang Ngwako at a donation ceremony of sanitary pads to learners at Lotsane Senior Secondary School in Palapye. recently.
He said the donation was more than just education but also about giving back to the community. He also said the donation was celebration of a 10-year movement that had touched the lives of thousands Batswana. He further said since they began this year’s roadshow on April 7, they traversed 20 towns and villages, bringing tertiary education services directly to communities.
“While the world moves deeper into the digital era, with online applications, virtual open days and expanding internet access, we know that there is no substitute for human connection. We know that no amount of online convenience can replace the power of institutions showing up in person, sitting down with learners, answering their questions, and guiding them in life-changing decisions,’’ he said.
He therefore said the 23 tertiary institutions had committed themselves to travel the length and breadth of the country to make sure that no one was left behind and would ensure that all had access to relevant information. Mr Ngwako also thanked the institutions for their dedicated efforts to traverse the country to reach out and give back, which showed a high level of commitment to national development.
Lotsane Senior School head of department, Mr Busang Lelatlhego appreciated the gesture and thanked the national roadshow committee for donating to the girl child in the school. He also pleaded with them to also donate to the boy child because they also needed support.
The roadshow featured about 23 tertiary institutions that travelled across the country to bring services closer to the people and provide learners with opportunities to apply to institutions of higher learning of their choice. ENDS
