Molome prioritises unity

08 May 2025

The newly elected Botswana National Front Women’s League (BNFWL) president, Ms Monica Molome has vowed to promote the spirit of unity among women in her committee and the BNF party in general.

Ms Molome said this when addressing a press conference that was meant to officially announce the newly elected BNFWL committee in Gaborone, on Wednesday.

“Unity of women in the BNF is going to be our priority, as the newly elected BNFWL committee.

We will also reach out to all the lobbies that participated in the elections and bring them on board, because there is no winning on our side without their support,” she said.

Her committee, she said, was committed and determined to serve every BNF member, recognising that they also needed everyone’s support to succeed in delivering their mandate.

As the current BNFWL president, Ms Molome said she wholly accepted her responsibility and did not take it lightly. Going forward, she said she would work hand in hand with her team to ensure that all the promises they made were fulfilled. “We do accept the responsibility that was given to us and we will do our best to deliver on all our promises,” she added.

The BNFWL president said her committee would also do its best to advance all issues affecting women and also work hard to resuscitate all women structures, within the party, across all the regions.

She, therefore, thanked everyone who stood with her team, that was termed, ‘Team Maatla’ prior to the elective congress, which was held in Letlhakane, on April 26, 2025.

She also thanked the National Elections Board (NEB) for running the elections well, as well as the BNF Central Committee for working tirelessly to ensure the elections’ success.

In the near future, Ms Molome said the BNFWL committee would organise another press conference to outline the committee’s detailed road map. Responding to a question on why she had decided to officially announce her committee members, whilst there were still protests by some of their comrades on social media, about the outcome of the recent elections, Ms Molome said the NEB had given her committee a go-ahead to start working.

Those who were protesting, she said, also had every right to take that route as the party constitution allowed for that.

The newly elected BNFWL committee consists of; Ms Gabarate Sento (vice president), Ms Tiny Saitsoketsa (chairperson), Ms Sadi Moremong (secretary general), Ms Onalenna Bobebe (deputy secretary) and Ms Cecilia Molefhi (treasurer). Other members, are; Ms Gaone Modisenyane (publicity secretary), Ms Kedibonye Batlang (organising secretary), Ms Gofaone Letlape (political education), Ms Hannah Keolopile (international affairs), Ms Bonolo Mokalakane (labour), Mamiki Rabaji (health and social welfare) and Ms Cathrine Bosele (secretary for economics).
