Prominent music promoter, Gilbert Seagile, affectionately known as PP in music circles, is to launch a strategy aimed at cultivating the spirit of self-reliance and fight poverty among young people.

The idea is to avail opportunity for young people not only in music but other avenues so as to create wealth for themselves. In an interview, the outspoken promoter who has been in the music scene for a while now said the aim of Charity Begins at Home Organisation was to develop socio economic well-being of young people who were hard hit by poverty.

He said that the objective of the organisation was to promote local entrepreneurship and sensitise other stakeholders to make use of the abundance of talent among young people.

The organisation will assist youth to promote individual talents. Seagile explained the organisation’s aim was to refine the business culture of the entertainment industry. He noted that owing to a large number of young people who dropped out of school due to unsatisfactory academic results they intended to assist them to compile proposals to seek financial assistance in government youth schemes.

“Our aim is to create awareness and help government in its efforts to sensitise young people on available opportunities in poverty eradication. Even though many poverty reduction strategies mention the needs of young people, they are limited in their analysis of the situation of youth and lack consideration of differences in young people’s realities. We have to show them that talent alone can take them out of the pangs of poverty,” he said

Seagile expressed concern that many young people failed in their endeavors because of lack of proper education and orientation on their chosen careers. “We want things to be run professionally. We also appeal to other stakeholders to come on board as this will go a long way in uplifting young people’s lives,” he said.

He added that they are also in consultation with Taolo Moshaga of Lonaka fame as their strategic patron. Moshaga in his own right is a pioneer of youth entrepreneurship and a successful businessman who is also a musician.

Seagile brings a wealth of experience in the marketing and business management field having held many positions in committees and organizations both in showbiz and corporate fields. He is the incumbent chairperson of the Charity Begins at Home and assistant secretary at the Botswana Promoters Association.

PP has some experiences in radio having hosted a show at the youthful radio station Yarona FM presenting the popular Montsamaisa Bosigo show and has also presented local entertainment programmes at RB2.

He is popularly known for unearthing among others the likes of Black Money Makers Odirile Vee Sento, self-acclaimed queen of Kwaito Kwasa Naledi Slizer Kaisara and award winning traditional dance troupe Culture Spears. ENDS
