Okavango councillors have welcomed the proposed Constituency Community Project (CCP) for Okavango East, Okavango West and Ngami.
Presenting the proposed projects during a special full council meeting on Monday, Okavango District Council deputy secretary-development, Mr Losika Kula said the proposals were a result of thorough consultations with the communities and leaders including the area Member of Parliament.
Mr Kula said the projects would create employment opportunities and diversify the region’s economy.
Mr Kula said proposed projects for the P10 million allocated for CCP in Okavango East include purchasing a vehicle for the MP’s office and construction of a lodge at Mohembo Bridge, among others.
For Okavango West, he said projects included classrooms and teachers’ accommodation at Mowana, Xhaoga, and Nxauxau; internal roads in Shakawe, power connection in Gani and Chukumuchu villages, purchasing a vehicle for project monitoring and setting aside some funds for subsistence allowance.
The Ngami constituency proposed the expansion of water tanks in Etsha 1, construction of a mobile health stop at Thale settlement, debushing and gravelling of roads at Gumare’s new wards, gravelling at Qangwa, Xaxa and construction of Social and Community Development office in Gumare.
Water Utilities Corporation Gumare general manager responsible for Okavango, Mr David Moroka said the corporation was mandated to provide water to gazetted areas only therefore, some of the proposed projects related to water supply might not be viable.
Mr Moroka said the solution would be to acquire a tank with a larger capacity for Etsha 1 that would cost more than what was initially planned. ENDS
