Mojadigo rape trial set for July

03 May 2025

The rape and defilement trial of Divine Anointing Church International pastor, Goitsekgosi Mojadigo has been moved to July and August.

The trial was initially scheduled for March but could not proceed and a new date was set by court this Friday for July 7 and 8, as well as August 12 this year.

The prosecution team led by Ms Seeletso Ookeditse of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has indicated it's readiness for the trial, promising that it would call a total of 17 witnesses.

Mojadigo’s attorney, Mr Olehile Manchwe said the defence had not managed to approach the High Court to challenge the duplicity of the charges Mojadigo faced, as he had indicated during the previous court sitting after the magistrate refused their application.

However, he said his client remained adamant that by charging him with multiple charges, the state was creating multiple opportunities for conviction. He said the number of charges prejudiced his client.

He explained that he could not proceed with the High Court application as he had not received some facts relevant to the case from the prosecution, hence the delay in approaching the High Court.

Mojadigo is accused to have committed the crimes between January 1 and May 5 last year in Morwa and at Donga in Francistown, and also impregnating a 16-year-old girl.

According to the charge sheet, contrary to Section 147 of the Penal Code, Mojadigo had unlawful carnal knowledge of a young girl under the age of 18 years on or about January 1, January 8, January 27 and May 5 last year.

He is also accused of having carnal knowledge of a woman without her consent, contrary to Section 141 as read with 142 (1) of the Penal Code, at or near Morwa on January 8.

The case is before Mochudi Magistrate Court, Principal Magistrate Queen Moanga, while Mojadigo is still in custody after his bail was revoked last year after having been found to have communicated with witnesses. ENDS
