Khama III Museum gets P60 000

05 Feb 2014

Khama III Memorial Museum in Serowe has received P60 000 from Jwaneng Cycling Club.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony on January 31, chairperson of the club, Keamogetse Nkane, said he hoped the gift would be meaningful and significant in assisting where possible.

Nkane expressed hope that the money would help the museum to improve its water reticulation system and museum grounds. He said the donation was a vote of confidence that Jwaneng Cycling Club bestowed on Khama III Memorial Museum.

He said Khama III Memorial Museum wanted to be a community-based one that showcased the diverse culture of the Central District and therefore the history of Botswana; and it needed financial help to attain this objective.

Nkane explained that the gift was not only from the cycling club but also from Jwaneng mine through a charity race termed The General Manager’s Cycle Race, whose patron is the Jwaneng Mine general manager Mr Albert Milton.

The cycling club staged a charity race in 2013, which generated P350 000 with the help of companies such as Puma Energy, Komatsu, Barloworld, Majwe Mining and other companies.

He said the donation to Khama III Memorial Museum mirrored more of what his club intended to do across Botswana, all in line with the cycling club’s mission to uplift the lives of Batswana.

He also said the donation, together with similar activities, represented the company values under its corporate social investment programme. Scobie Lekhutile, the museum curator, said the donation came at the right time and would be used the funds for what they are intended for.

He thanked the club and the mine’ general manager for this gesture and wished them well. He added that it was through sponsorships that the museum could be able to carry out its development programme. ENDS
