Cluster members to receive stipend

23 Mar 2025

The Minster for State President, Mr Moeti Mohwasa says crime prevention cluster members will be given stipend for their services.

Closing the National Conference on Crime Prevention in Gaborone recently, Mr Mohwasa said crime prevention cluster members invested time, their lives and other resources to prevent crime.

“Being a cluster member, you are enemy number one of people committing crimes. You should be recognised for the sacrifices you make. But, I want to promise you. If it fails, I will come back to you,” he said.

Mr Mohwasa said crime prevention cluster members  attending meetings would be remunerated for spending time in an effort to fight crime. He said the government had to hasten to make amends into payment of sitting allowances for those who spend time planning and facilitating crime prevention.

He also said currently the government could not afford to pay allowances but that would not deter them from being compensated for their efforts. He said the National Crime Prevention Conference had shown that collaborations aimed at crime prevention either in Southern Africa or the world could reduce the rate of crime.

Mr Mohwasa said no one would be pleased with crime committed in their communities and those who were against crime have to be compensated. He said when crime was committed, the first person to come to mind was the police and they deserved to be compensated.

He said the private sector also had to make financial contribution as funding was needed to equip and capacitate crime prevention clusters. He said those who did not help prevent crime were complicit. ENDS
