04 Feb 2014

Tonota police are investigating a case in which a man allegedly killed a woman on Saturday night (February 1) with a sharp object in Ditladi.

In an interview, the station commander, Superintendent Robson Maleka said the two were aged between 21 and 30 years and were alleged to have been in a relationship. Supt Maleka said the accused was in custody and this was the first murder case they had recorded this year in their jurisdiction.

Police are also investigating an incident in which remains suspected to be of a human being were found in Francistown last week. Detective Assistant Commissioner, Oabitsa Rankwaila said the remains had since been sent for forensic examinations to determine whether they were of a human being, the age and the gender.

She said though there were a number of missing persons reported in the country including Francistown, it was still difficult to relate the remains to any of them pending the forensic laboratory results.

Meanwhile in Francistown, a 30-year-old-woman died when a BMW vehicle, which was travelling from the South heading North along the A1 road overturned near Tati Siding on Sunday. Superintendent Pelontle Kesupile said the woman was certified dead at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital, while the driver aged 28, and had no driver’s  licence, sustained minor injuries while the other woman aged 38, suffered a fractured leg.

Supt Kesupile said investigations indicated that the driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned. He also appealed to drivers using Tonota-Francistown A1 road, which is still under construction to drive with caution at all times.

In another incident, Supt Kesupile said a horse and trailer truck also overturned along Francistown/ Maun road near Francistown Weigh Bridge after the load in the trailer overpowered the truck. No injuries were sustained.  ENDS
